The Vishnusahasra-nama – 1,000 Names of Vishnu

Vishnu

The Vishnusahasra-nama is a mantra, or a list of 1,000 names of Vishnu, one of the main forms of God in Hinduism. It is also one of the most sacred and commonly chanted prayers in Hinduism. When chanted with correct pronunciation and devotion 1,000 names of Vishnu can bring immense peace and joy.

Lord Siva says towards the end of Vishnusahasra-nama that I chant the holy name of Rama, and thus constantly enjoy this beautiful sound, which is equal to chanting the 1,000 names of Vishnu.

Vishnusahasra-nama

Shreerãma Rãma Rãméti Ramé Rãme Manoramé

Sahasra Nãma Tattulyam Rãma Nãma Varanané

By meditating on "Rama Rama Rama" (the Name of Rama), my Mind gets absorbed in the Divine Consciousness of Rama, which is Transcendental and blissful.

The mind is energy, in fact, the same energy that comes from the sun, the same subtle rays. Ask any physicist, and they will say the mind has a voltage, that it is electrical.

If you go on repeating Ram, Ram, Ram, or Om, Om, Om, or anything, just one word - if you go repeating and repeating and repeating it, the mind's whole energy becomes centered in that one word. That word acts as a magnifying lens.

Now all the rays, the thoughts are passing through that lens of the mantra.  Narrowed to one point it becomes powerful, you can do miracles. Just by thinking you can do miracles. But remember, those miracles are not spiritual. Power derived from the miracles is never spiritual. Powerlessness, helplessness, to be nothing, is spiritual.

The mantras are continually chanted in many Hindu temples. There is some meaning behind it. The mantra affects our body and excites spiritual centers or wheels, known as Chakra, and the power of those wheels, which are spiritual energies that begin to rise up within the body.  The word 'Om' or other mantras and their humming are meant to take the spiritual energy upwards, leading to a higher awareness or consciousness.

'Amin' of the Muslims, and the 'Amen' of the Christians are forms of 'Om'. The English words omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotence are derived from 'Om'. Omniscient means one who has seen the 'Om'. The 'Om' means a Brahman or god. Omnipresent means one who is with 'Om', Omnipotent means when one who becomes as powerful as 'Om'. He is now full with the seed of energy like God. This word 'Om' has A, U and M, three fundamental sounds. If these sounds are systematically repeated, they can raise the spiritual energy upward, leading to enlightenment.
