Ramayana

Ramayana

Lord Rama was the seventh Incarnation of God or an avatar. Avatar literally means descent. Hindus believe that God incarnates now and then to establish Dharma and help his devotees in their search for God.

Lord Rama was born about 10,000 years ago in India. The story of Lord Rama is called Ramayana.  The Ramayana consists of 24,000 Slokas or verses grouped into 500 chapters or seven sections.  The Sage Valmiki wrote the life story of Rama, which was the first epic poem ever written in the world. Heroism, sacrifice, and Bhakati or devotion, are the theme of this epic poem.

Rama's life and journey is one of perfect adherence to dharma despite the harsh tests of his life.   He shows the life as the ideal man and the perfect human. Rama performs great feats of valor and at the same time exhibits divine love and compassion.  Those who stand for these ideals will reach the pinnacle of success, which culminates in his coronation as the king of Ayodhya.

The Ramayana depicts the duties of relationships, portraying ideal characters, like the ideal father, ideal servant, the ideal brother, the ideal wife and the ideal king.  The Ramayana explores human values and the concept of Dharma. Rama stands for Dharma and his wife Sita stands for the power of compassion.

For millions of men, women and children in India, the epic of Ramayana has a profound effect on their spiritual progress within their culture.  The Ramayana is the very soul of India. It is a complete guide to God-realization, the path to which lies in righteousness. The ideals of man are beautifully portrayed in it. Everyone should emulate those ideals to grow into ideal human beings and ideal citizens.

The story of Rama defines and narrates the world where king Rama rules the world of the people, by the people and for the people long before the world was civilized.
