India - The Empire of Spirit

1. India is much more than a country. It is something more: It is vibrating with certain energy fields that no other country can claim. For thousands of years it has encompassed the search for eternal spiritual truth, and has produced an explosion of consciousness, and as a result, an atmosphere of spiritual energy unequaled in the world was created. The vibration is still alive; the impact is in the very air, you just need a certain receptivity, a certain capacity to receive the invisible that surrounds this country.

2. The people and culture of India are unique because it has nurtured and given birth to many of the world's greatest religions, like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, etc. In the eighth century, the people of Zoroastrian, Parsi religion, fled to India due to Muslim invaders in Iran. Not only did the Indian people welcome them, but also indirectly helped them preserve their rituals, and traditions.

India had welcomed and supported Apostle Thomas in 63 A.D., who spent 30 years in India. The oldest church as well as the oldest synagogue in the world can be found in India. People of India have preserved the ancient traditions, rituals, and teachings of Jews and Christians much better than any other parts of the world. Jews fled to India in 600 B.C from Egypt. Jews did not marry outside their community, and as a result they were able to preserve their traditions and purity of genes.

The ability to see the oneness of spirit in all beings, as well as the non-violent, accepting and tolerant nature of the Indian people have helped the Christians and Jews in India maintain their rituals and traditions in the purest form, from the very onset of their religions.

When Dalai Lama, the spiritual head of Tibetan Buddhism in 1959 fled Tibet, no country on this earth wanted to give him asylum including the USA. But, India welcomed the Dalai Lama, and provided the land and financial support, which it is doing even today.

3. From ancient times, the country India was known as Bharat. 'Bha' means spiritual light or wisdom, and 'rat' means devoted. Therefore, the country was devoted to spiritual light and wisdom, and continues to do so today.

The ancient Indians lived a God centered life based on spiritual laws, even before their religion had a name. Their way of life was harmonious, righteous, virtuous, loving, truthful, and conformed to divine laws and duty. They defined this way of life with the word 'Dharma'.

This tradition of living a life according to Dharmic laws comes from very ancient times, which they described as 'Sanatana', meaning without beginning. This way life or religion is called 'Sanatana Dharma'. But, both the Persians and Greeks mispronounced the name of the river Sindu, as Hindu, and their faith as Hinduism.

4. The religion of India, Hinduism, is considered the mother of all religions for many reasons. First, it is the oldest living faith, dating back 25,000 years, and second, it encompasses all the thoughts contained in other scriptures.   The accuracy of 25,000 years is noted in the Vedas, Hindu scripture by providing astronomical information. This was verified by a western anthropologist as well as astronomer’s calculations of the position of the planets and stars during that time period.

5. India has never invaded any country, always emphasizing non-violence and peaceful co-existence with its neighbors.

6. Kumbh Mela is the world largest and most peaceful human pilgrimage gathering in the history of the world, which occurs every 12 years. In 2013, over 100 million Hindu pilgrims gathered to bathe in the sacred confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers. By official estimate 30 million pilgrims-yes, that's the population of Tokyo-took the sacred bath on 14 February 2013. Kumbh Mela is celebrated at different locations according to a special combination of zodiacal positions of the Sun, Moon, and Jupiter.

7. The Tirupati, which is a Vishnu temple in Southern India is the richest pilgrimage center in the world, with over 12 billion dollars in assets. It is the most-visited place of worship in the world, surpassing Rome or Mecca. About 50,000 to 100,000 pilgrims visit daily, and 30 to 40 million people annually visit the temple.

8. Mathematics originated in India. Aryabhatt, the genius Indian astronomer and mathematician of the third century was the first to gift algebra and calculus to the world. He precisely calculated the earth’s diameter, the theory that the earth is round, and that the earth’s rotation around the Sun gives us day and night, as well as the theory of eclipses.

The biggest contribution of India in mathematics is the invention of ‘zero.’ The Indian astrologer, Varahamihir in 535 A.D first mentioned this in his astronomical work.  Zero was derived from the concept of Shoonaya, which means void or nothingness from the science of meditation.

The decimal system was developed in India in 100 B.C.  The digits 1 through 9 were also first introduced by India.

500 years before Newton, Bhaskaryacharya, Indian mathematician discovered the law of gravity in the 11th century, and concluded that this gravitational attraction is responsible for the revolution of the earth, planets, sun, moon, etc.

The ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter is called pi. The Indian sage Budhayan (600 BCE) nearly 2,600 years ago precisely calculated the value of pi as 3.14.

Sayana, a Hindu sage of the 14th century, first discovered the speed of light as 185,794 miles per second.

9. Ayurveda, the earliest school of medicine was founded 5,000 years ago in India. Sage Charak wrote an encyclopedic book giving details about diseases, and over 100,000 herbs that are curative.

Sushutra is the father of surgery and dentistry, who conducted complicated surgery.  He also developed over 125 surgical instruments. The oldest surgical and dental instruments have been discovered in India dating back 4,400 years.

10. Chess, Shataranja was invented in India, and it is mentioned in Maha Bharat, the 5,000 years old Hindu scripture, which dramatically records the life of Lord Krishna.

11. World’s largest democracy with over 600 million voters, and largest population of English speaking people outside USA, 126 million.

12. India is the largest user of space satellites, and it has developed its own advanced technologies to put heavy, large satellites into space. In addition, India is the only country other than the US and Japan, to have built a super computer.

13. Second largest pool of engineers, doctors and scientists in the world, following USA. India produces 400,000 engineers a year versus 70,000 for USA.
